Aerospace Masterpieces v.2

Power Factor Correction for Aircraft Power Supplies

Device:

Electrical Power

Technology:

Airbus 380 electronics

Success:

About 6.000 units flying on A380s, 747s, Dreamliners, etc.

Patent no.: DE 10 2005 004 577 A1

Date of registration: 01.02.2005

Applicant: Weigele Scientific Engineering

Inventor: Uwe Weigele et al

about this Masterpiece

The AC voltage network of a modern aircraft is very complex and the requirements are extremely high. For example, the requirements for fluctuating voltage, variations in mains frequency of over an octave; Lightning strikes, etc. greatly increased with the introduction of the Airbus A380. The technology described in this patent has exceeded the new requirements without significantly increasing the weight and costs.

Airborne First Class Reading Lights

Device:

Electrical Power

Technology:

Airbus 380 electronics

Success:

The technology is widely used in business and first class seats

Patent no.: DE 10 2009 037 757 A1

Date of registration: 17.08.2009

Applicant: Dornier Technologie GmbH

Inventor: Uwe Weigele et al

about this Masterpiece

This invention answers a high-end first class comfort requirement, providing the most demanding passengers with the required amount of light right one the spot. Sleeping neighbors appreciate it.

Control Strategy for Aircraft-Seats Pneumatics

Device:

Seat Pneumatic increasing comfort by weight reduction

Technology:

Electronics, mechanics, pneumatic

Success:

Several Airlines worldwide

Patent no.: DE 10 2010 020 642 A1

Date of registration: 15.05.2010

Applicant: Dornier Technologie GmbH

Inventor: Uwe Weigele et al

about this Masterpiece

The idea behind this invention is to replace the heavy foam in seats with highly dynamic air cushions. In order to offer the passenger more comfort, the air cushions are dynamically adapted to the attitude of the aircraft, such as fluctuations in air pressure, acceleration and passenger requirements. An additional challenge was vandalism and rapid decompression.

Actuation System for Aircraft Seat

Device:

Modular lightweight seat actuation

Technology:

Electronics, mechanics, kinematics

Success:

Several Airlines worldwide

Patent no.: DE 10 2010 032 607 A1

Date of registration: 28.07.2010

Applicant: Dornier Technologie GmbH

Inventor: Uwe Weigele et al

about this Masterpiece

Today's modern passenger seats are kinematic marvels that can move freely in several axes. This allows passengers to automatically move to several comfort positions or convert the seat into a bed. Every seat position should be comfortable during the seat movement, without the passenger being able to get trapped or injured, regardless of their weight and size.

The system described in this patent improves  safety, maintenance and reliability of these systems.

Modular Power Supply for Civil Aircraft

Device:

Lightweight powersupply for cabin application, commercial aviation

Technology:

Electronics, mechanics

Success:

Various seat makers supplying many airlines

Patent no.: EP 3 115 297 B1

Date of registration: 30.06.2016

Applicant: Weigele Aerospace GmbH

Inventor: Uwe Weigele et al

about this Masterpiece

Requirements for in-flight power supplies vary by aircraft make and type. Connector and wiring concepts are often different. This meant that different power supplies had to be built and approved for different aircraft types. For example, different versions of a passenger seat were manufactured depending on the aircraft type. Weigele Aerospace developed a modular system in which a single power supply can be used for all common aircraft types. In addition to the mechanics, a particular challenge was the electrical approval an certification for various types of aircraft.

about this Masterpiece

The inefficient and unflexible state-of-the-art oven in aircraft galleys with its inhomogeneous heat distribution is a thing of the past. The technology provides the following advantages:

a) Higher efficiency: Less power consumption by using wireless power exactly there, where it is necessary.

b) Modularity & Compatibility: Ovens are compatible with the existing racks.

c) Variety: Warm and cold meals can be prepared

on one tray. Selective satisfaction of the passenger´s needs, e.g. by Hot Spot Cooking and free adjustable timing for each meal.
